      South Coast:

  • There has been no communication or response from the Soroptomists to the letter written in late December.  The Point Arena office remains open 4 days a week with Heidi Marshall (RCMS Ameri-CORPS member) staffing, Lucille supervising Heidi, and Lorelei Hammond providing Heidi with clinical consultation.  A grant application to the Avon foundation was completed last August to pay wages for staffing after June 2006 when Heidi’s AmeriCORPS position ends.  We haven’t heard back yet on the application.

Annual Audit:

  • Julie’s report to the Board is scheduled for the February Board meeting. A copy of the report was included in each Board member’s packet.

Program Operations, Events, and Community Outreach:

  • “The Vagina Monologues”: The Inland show is scheduled for February 23, 24, and 25, 2006 at the Mendocino College Little Theater.  Board attendance is encouraged.  Each Board member will be offered a complimentary ticket.  25 women who are enrolled in the Mendocino College class are performing in this year’s show.  They include P.S. staff members Linda Davidson and Ana Araiza who are providing technical assistance to instructor, Sarah Walker.  Sponsors to underwrite the show’s expenses are being recruited for $100 each. In addition to Board members, complimentary tickets are also being offered to staff, MUFF members who are providing the concessions, class members, and to clients who staff recommend.  This is a fundraiser for PS!!
  • “Until the Violence Stops”:  A free public showing at the Mendocino College Little Theater will be Friday, February 17 at 7:30.  Donations will accepted.
  • A newsletter is ready to be mailed the first week of February.  The next one is scheduled for early April.
  • Staff training, required by our OES grant, is scheduled in Fort Bragg on February 14.  Volunteers will staff the offices that day.  Mimi Bashaw, Coast Clinical consultant, will present training on Mental Health issues and how they may increase vulnerability for sexual assault.  The training will also address discussion of and skill-building for staff on practical approaches to serving victims with mental health issues.
  • The shelter has continued to be full most days this past month.  Staff are doing a great job providing assistance to women and children in crisis.
  • Mid-Year Reports: Lucille, with help from Tracy, and Judy with help from both Kathy and Porter met deadlines for the OES mid-year reports.  (Maria, who is our resident expert on the stat reports, has been out with a family emergency.)  All deserve thanks!
  • Dates are set for April 2006 (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) events:
    • Thursday, April 27th is Denim Day.  We are also planning an open house that day at the Coast office from 5:00 to 6:00 and a candle light walk around downtown Fort Bragg in support of “Take Back the Night”.
    • Saturday April 29th is the Inland event “Walk a Mile” in her Shoes in downtown Ukiah – Amunka Davila’s wonderful men’s drummers are returning again this year and new efforts to include young men 14 – 18 are being planned to tie in with the MyStrength campaign.
