Project
Sanctuary Executive Director’s Report
Board of
Director’s Meeting March 7, 2006
Fundraising:
- The Mendocino Wine Affair: The
dates are June 23 and 24, 2006.
Please save these dates. Christine
attended a preliminary planning meeting.
We expect to receive a written description of our responsibilities
and benefit from the events next month.
South Coast:
- The grant application to the Avon foundation was not funded. RCMS staff and Christine will be seeking
other sources to fund Heidi’s position after June 2006 when her AmeriCORPS
position ends.
Program
Operations, Events, and Community Outreach:
- “The Vagina Monologues” was performed February 23, 24,
and 25, 2006 at the Mendocino College Little Theater to nearly full houses. Sponsors helped underwrite the
production costs and Mendocino Underground Feminist Federation provided the
refreshments and will donate all proceeds to PS. Ticket sales totaled $4,474. The net proceeds will be reported as soon
as all revenues are received and expenses paid.
- “Until the
Violence Stops”: A free public showing at the Mendocino
College Little Theater was held on Friday, February 17 at 7:30. Attendance
was light but enjoyed by all who did come.
It was great to see Gary Hudson
and some of the Mendocino Quilt Artists in red boas once again! We received $54 in donations from
attendees.
- A newsletter was mailed the first week of February. Due to some mailing list problems, some
of those sent were returned. The
problem has been identified and will not occur when the next one is mailed
in April.
- Staff training, required by our OES grant, was held in Fort Bragg on February 14. Mimi Bashaw, Coast Clinical Consultant,
presented training on mental health issues and how they may increase
vulnerability for sexual assault.
The training provided basic information for staff on serving
victims. This meeting included lunch wonderfully prepared by the Coast
staff and their families and valentine cookies by Mary Tindall.
- Grant Applications: March is the month that our three OES grants
are due. These reapplications
involve work from Lucille, Judy, Christine, Lark, Dina and Price
Waterman. We are also making an
application to United Way
for shelter support. This is where
our 06/07 budget preparation foundation begins. We are busy!
April 2006 Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events:
- Dates are set:
- Wednesday, April 19th “Denim Day”. (This is a correction
to last month’s announced date!) Please wear denim and your “Why Denim?”
button.
- Thursday, April 27th “Take Back the Night” is our open house at the
Coast office from 5:00 to 6:00 with a candle light walk around downtown Fort Bragg to follow.
- Saturday April 29th “Walk
a Mile” in her Shoes in downtown Ukiah. (Alex Thomas
Plaza 10:00 –
Noon.) Amunka Davila’s wonderful chanting drummers are returning again
this year and new efforts to include teams and young men 14 – 18 are
being planned to tie in with the “MyStrength” campaign. Inland staff and one Board member came
to a lunch planning session. Kathy Asher, Inland Prevention Education
Coordinator and Mary Tindall, WAM Event Coordinator, are developing the
outreach program. Materials and a
briefing of how the Board can support this event will be presented at the
March Board meeting.
