Project Sanctuary Executive Director’s Report

Board of Director’s Meeting April 12, 2006

          Fundraising:

  • The Mendocino Wine Affair:  The dates are June 23 and 24, 2006.  Please save these dates.  The Mendocino Winegrowers Alliance is most interested in our support in three ways: our mailing list, event volunteer helpers, and auction donation ideas or actual donations.  They are hoping to raise $100,000 from the auction.  After Search and Rescue receives their contracted pay of $10,000.  The remainder will be equally divided among the three charities.  I have secured a Tin Pan Alley house concert.  Can anyone help find a great location and food to go with?  This package could be in the live auction (great PS publicity opportunity) if we put it all together.  The donation deadline was 3/31 but the drop dead time is 4/30.  I’ll try to find these but any help you can offer would be much appreciated

     South Coast:

  • Heidi is very busy at the new Point Arena office.  The building has become a multi agency services center including Mental Health counseling, Department of Social Services, Children’s services and employment services.  These building partners build safety and confidentiality into our service delivery.   RCMS staff and Christine are still seeking sources to fund Heidi’s part-time position after June 2006 when her AmeriCORPS position ends.

Program Operations, Events, and Community Outreach:

  • “The Vagina Monologues”  -Total Revenue received was $5,964, expenses totaled $1,654 Net = $4310
  •  A newsletter was mailed the first week of April.  Dick Selzer of Realty World donated the photocopying.  This helped us save money.
  • Grant Applications: March is the month that our three OES grants are due.  These reapplications involve work from Lucille, Judy, Christine, Lark, Dina and Price Waterman.  This is where our 06/07 budget preparation foundation begins.  We have also sent an application to United Way for shelter support, we are working on an application (due 4/7/06) to support and expand our prevention education program to reach more teens throughout the county.  If we get this, we can “shift” some funds to pay staff in Point Arena.  In addition, we have an FESG re-application due on 4/25/06 for shelter costs and budgets revisions for DHS are due on May 1st.  We are busy!

Amunka Davila’s Grupo Tremendo drummers are returning again this year and new efforts to include teams and young men 14 – 18 are being planned to tie in with the “MyStrength” campaign.  Inland staff and one Board member came to a lunch planning session.  Kathy Asher, Inland Prevention Education Coordinator and Mary Tindall, WAM Event Coordinator, and Christine have divided up follow-up to build teams.  This is another opportunity to be involved with PS.  Please come if you can, walk if you’re able and gather pledges if you’re so inclined!  Starbucks, the City of Ukiah, and Schat’s have donated refreshments and Alex Thomas Plaza fee waiver so far.
