Project Sanctuary Executive Director’s Report for May 1, 2007 Meeting

Funding Application/Outcomes:

No new applications have been produced this month but we have submitted 2 of the 3 grant reapplications for OES.  DHS has combined the inland and coast Rape Prevention grants, reducing the total number due to them from 3 to 2.  Judy Albert has taken lead responsibility for reapplication preparation, with assistance from the management team and Price Waterman producing the budgets.

Facilities:

  • Transitional Housing Updates – Currently one single woman (upstairs) is occupying the house.  Facilities committee members Roberto and Felipe met to tour and brainstorm possibilities for the property.
  • Ukiah office relocation to 564 South Dora will occupy much staff time between now and the move in date August 13.  Dina is lead on the move and is researching moving options and making move plans.  All staff has been asked to discard and/or organize accumulated stuff.
  • The repair and painting of the leaking wall at the FB office has been postponed until a funding source can be identified.

Staffing Updates:

  • New Fort Bragg hire: Jenna McCorkle was hired to fill behind Cecilia Ornelas.  She has become part of the team immediately and staff wonders what we ever did without her.
  • The Inland Volunteer Coordinator position has been advertised and many promising applications have come in.  In the meantime, Judy Albert is assigning staff to cover Volunteer Coordinator duties and keep the volunteer program operating and the volunteers connected.
  • Transition Coordinator – this was the other half of Mary’s job – We decided to not fill this position at least until we have a plan in place for the program and building.  In the meantime, Debbie Ramirez, Shelter Manager, is case managing the two women in the program (one housed in transition and the other in a neighboring facility.) Other responsibilities may be assigned to existing staff.
  • Fort Bragg’s Meliza Wetzler, returned from maternity leave part-time beginning the first week of April but has decided to move out of state and so she will be leaving in the near future.  An ad has been placed.
  • Jennifer Johnston’s son, Jesse, had a medical emergency and she has been out caring for him.  Staff has covered for her absence and we look forward to her return (and Jesse’s complete recovery) on May 7th.

Dates/Activities to Note:

  • Board Retreat Date:  June 23rd at Paul Conrado’s house.  Directions and details to follow.
