Executive Director’s Report for March 4, 2008 Board Meeting

Funding Updates:

1. United Way Community Impact Grant to provide additional staffing for the transition program and shelter was submitted February 25, 2008.  We requested $55,000 to fund a fulltime position including salary, benefits, supervision, travel and supplies. This position would assist Debbie at the shelter and transition so that we can more closely support transitioning clients. It would also allow us to bring staff who work at the shelter one afternoon/evening a week back into the office to perform their primary jobs: Prevention ed, counseling, and legal assistance.  It was lots of work.  I appreciated help from Teresa at Price Waterman, Dina Polkinghorne, and Judy Albert.

2. The RFA has still not yet been received for Ukiah City Redevelopment Funds to rehabilitate the transition house.

3. The TR Eriksen Foundation application needs to be sent by March 15, 2008.  I am working on it now.  The focus of this proposal is to supplement our prevention education services to serve more schools in the Ukiah Valley.

4. We have been advised to expect 10% funding cuts from OES and DHS in 08/09.  We have not yet received specific information about which of the funding pots could be impacted.  And until the 08/09 state budget is passed, we won’t know the final impact.

Facilities:

Transition House: We have received an assessment report of the deficiencies at the transition house.  This report needs to be evaluated by contractors in order to learn the estimated cost of repairs and to provide these details for grant application(s) (See # 2 above).

● The Ukiah office heating units were not working.  One has been repaired and one needs parts which have not yet been received.  We are requesting compensation in the form of reduced rent in March.

Activities/Program Updates:

Denim Day is Wednesday, April 23.

● Walk a Mile is Saturday, April 26.  Amunka Davila and his troop of drummers confirmed their participation.

A newsletter will be sent in late March to advertise Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events in April (Walk-a-Mile and Denim Day among other things.)
