April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

We'll be very busy this April 2019 with several different Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) activities.

  • On March 27th at the Willits City Council meeting, April will be recognized as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month through a special proclaimation.
  • On April 3rd at our Ukiah office, we'll be holding a SAAM-focused open house for our peers and community collaboraters so that they can learn about the services we provide and the ways in which Project Sanctuary can help with their clients who may be experiencing trauma from sexual assault and abuse.
  • At the April 8th Fort Bragg City Council meeting, April will be recognized as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month through a special proclaimation. Project Sanctuary provided a presentation, viewable at this link
  • A SAAM-focused open house for the general public will be held at our Fort Bragg center on April 12th.
  • International Denim Day is Wednesday, April 24th this year. This is a special day in April to recognize a supreme court ruling in Italy that a rape victim’s assailant could not have gotten the victims tight jeans off without her participation and therefore his conviction was overturned. Italian women took to the streets by the thousands, including female government officials, wearing jeans in protest. Denim Day has become an international symbol of the anti victim-blaming movement. If  you would like to host a Denim Day at your workplace it’s super easy. We can supply you with Denim Day buttons for your staff and everyone wears denim to work that day.
  • April 25th is the opening night of "Luna Gale" presented by the Mendocino Theater Company. The play has a child sexual assault theme and Project Sanctuary staff will be participating in a talk-back session following the production that evening.
  • We'll be partnering with select bars on the coast to pilot the Angel Shot Program.
  • Select inland bars will join us to promote the idea of consent by distributing "Consent is Sexy" coasters to their patrons when ordering a drink.
  • All throughout April, multiple businesses and organizations throughout the County will have SAAM info on their countertops or front desks, along with a basket of SAAM buttons for the general public. Please pick up a button and help spread awareness about sexual assault prevention.
  • Ukiah High Seniors are using the Mr Wildcat annual event to promote SAAM and raise funds for PS. They also invited PS staff to speak to freshman about personal safety and consent.
  • On April 13th there will be a "Walk to End Sexual Assault" hosted by the Hopland Tribal Health Clinic. PS will walk and have an info booth.
  • South Valley High in Ukiah has invited PS prevention staff to do presentations and other activities in regards to consent.
  • Fort Bragg prevention staff will be conducting consent workshops at every high school on the coast which will include consent activities and screen printing t-shirts. All schools will have SAAM buttons and palmcards available in their offices.

Thank  you to the following businesses and organizations for parterning with us on our SAAM button campaign; Pick your button up at....
